When you move into a new area, you have questions about things like residential services and how things operate in your new community. The LTNA is here to help.

Texaco Station
700 Madison
The historic Texaco station at the corner of 7th and Madison Streets is owned by the City of Paducah as well as the grassy lot diagonal to it. Both are used by the LTNA extensively. It is the “go-to” place for most Lower Town activities and outdoor events, particularly since it has a nice restroom. City pays for lawn care, utilities, and maintains the plumbing and HVAC; consequently, LTNA keeps it neat and tidy. (No other neighborhood gets such special treatment!) Considered an Information Center, there are rack cards for Lower Town artists and businesses to display and a map of the area. Announcements are posted there as well.

Lower Town Arts & Music Festival
Each May
The Lower Town Arts and Music Festival is a 2-day celebration of arts, music, community and food! For a Friday and Saturday in the middle of May each year, the streets of Lower Town are filled with artists, musicians, chefs and other food vendors and what really makes it a party—kids and adults all having a good time. If booths and events take place on your street, you’ll need to park your vehicle somewhere else. But, hey, you’ll have a front row seat for all the fun!

Historic District
All of Lower Town is both a locally-designated and nationally-designated Historic District. As such, ANY renovation to a property that is visible from a public street MUST be reviewed by the Historic & Architectural Review Committee (HARC).
Historic district designation protects our neighborhood and all of our investments.
For more information, go to “Renovation.”

Trash Pick-up
Fridays
Beginning at 4am every Friday morning, Lower Town’s trash is picked up by city trucks. Residents must have their city-issued, green, garbage rollouts to either the curb in front of their residence or to the edge of their alley, if they have an accessible alley. Monthly charge is $26.50 on your water bill.
Of course, after emptying, please remove and store your rollout back out of sight. For holidays, the Public Works Department alters its schedule, and that information appears on their Holiday Calendar.

Mini Food Pantry
8th & Harrison
To help those who are hungry, Lower Town created a mini food pantry from a vintage refrigerator. Simply place your food donations inside.
Please no clothing, shoes or blankets; this is for food stuffs – it’s not big enough.
The Mini Food Pantry is on 8th Street near Harrison St behind PATS’ bus shed.
Here’s a list of food suggestions. Remember, there are many food insecure households and most are not homeless or transitory. So think nutrition and real meals more than convenience foods.

Doggie Etiquette
free
One of the best things about Lower Town is that it’s walkable for both you and your dog. For the convenience of dog owners and sanitation of everyone, LTNA has erected and volunteers maintain four “poop” stations where you can get a plastic bag for Fido’s poop and then deposit it in a can provided for that purpose. Four Locations are: 400 block of Madison, 500 block of Monroe, 8th Street between Madison & Harrison, and 9th Street between Jefferson & Monroe.
We love pets, but we insist that neighbors and guests clean up after them.

All about Recycling

Curbside Recycling
Call to sign-up
Single-stream, curbside recycling is available and encouraged, But you must SIGN up. Blue rollouts (similar to the green trash rollouts) are provided and are placed at curbside for pick-up. Collection days are 2nd & 4th Monday of each month, very early in the morning for everyone east of 9th St. Those residents west of 9th Street are collected on the 1st & 3rd Monday.
Since it is single-stream (no sorting), it is important for the items to be clean. Otherwise, they contaminate the paper and cardboard items.
Do not include non-accepted items, it can result in the whole truckload being rejected.
Call the Public Works Department at 270-444-8511 for more information and to sign up for curbside recycling.

Drop-off Recycling
400 State Street
At the transfer station, drive through and unload the recyclables. Separate cardboard and place it in the marked bin. All other accepted recyclables can be placed together in the blue single-stream dumpsters. Same items are collected here as the curbside; but the transfer station is particularly handy when you have large quantities or your rollout is full.
Not accepted: Plastic Bags, Glass, Plastics #4-#5-#6, Electronics, Appliances, Batteries, Paint, Tires, and similar items.

Recyclables
These are the items Paducah currently accepts for recycling:
Pasteboard (which includes cereal and other similar-type boxes)
Newspapers, magazines, junk mail, phone books, hardback and paperback books, office paper
Tin, steel, and aluminum cans (rinsed)
#1 and #2 plastics, please rinse containers
While other places may recycle more types of items, resist the temptation to include them in your recycle bin, because it will contaminate our waste stream.
A sample is taken from every truck coming in and, if there is too much non-recyclable stuff, the entire load is sent to the dump!

Yard Waste, Brush, Limbs and Leaves
Call for pick-up
The city picks up bagged leaves, brush and yard waste on an as-needed basis. Leaves bagged, limbs no longer than 48″. All items must be placed adjacent to the street – not in the gutter. To schedule a pick-up since this is not automatic, call Public Works at 270-444-8511 or use the Paducah 311 app.
Additionally, Paducah residents may take and dump their yard waste at the City Compost facility with no charge. Take your ID. Hours vary, so call first.
Christmas Tree disposal, take it to the City Compost facility at 1560 North 8th Street.
All vegetative debris is composted and used in city parks and available to Paducah residents for small fee.

Hazardous / E-waste Disposal
Annual
Spring Clean Up Day, May 3, 2025, is the FREE day for Paducah residents to get rid of their unusual waste:
Batteries and e-scrap; Fluorescent bulbs; Major appliances (tagged Freon-free); Tires (limit of 8 tires); Household hazardous waste, such as caustic cleaners (in original container); Paint; Ammunition; Prescription medications.
Between 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. take it to the Republic Services transfer station, 829 Burnett Street; remember your driver’s license.
OR for those LT residents with a relatively small amount, take it to the Texaco Station on Neighborhood Clean-up Day where a neighbor’s pick-up is waiting until about noon to take a load.

Large Item/Furniture Disposal
$25 base price
City will pick up your unwanted large items/furniture on Thursday and Fridays with the knuckleboom truck for a minimum fee of $25 added to your water bill. This includes mattresses, appliances and furniture. Place the items adjacent to the street (not in the alleys).
Note that freezers/refrigerators MUST have doors removed and the Freon removed (tagged out) by a professional.
To schedule a pick-up, call Public Works at 270-444-8511.
